The Choir is made up of three groups:
Adult volunteers sing the alto, tenor and bass parts. The Choir does not have any adult sopranos. We are always pleased to hear from singers who would enjoy contributing to the busy musical life of St Mary's; some level of music-reading ability is necessary.
Choral scholars, young singers in full-time education, join the adults on the back row and receive extra coaching and musicianship sessions. They are boys with changed voices (singing countertenor, tenor and bass), and girls singing alto or soprano (from Year 10+).
Choristers (girls and boys) aged 7+ sing the treble line, and receive a full musical education in singing, musicianship and theory.
Are you interested in singing with us? We are always keen to hear from singers who might enjoy a commitment to the music at St Mary's!
We run open evenings a couple of times a year - young singers, parents and carers are all welcome to attend. Young people can join the chorister rehearsal, and there will be an opportunity to meet current choristers, choral scholars and organ scholars and chat to them and the music staff about the choir and its activities. Booking is strongly recommended: for information about our next open evening, please email info@stmarysmertonchoir.com.
